Uganda: 600 Test for TB, HIV/Aids in Amuru
The outreach camp was organised by the Northern Uganda Malaria, AIDS/HIV and Tuberculosis Programme (NUMAT) and Koch-Goma internally displaced people's camp.
The NUMAT information, education and communication manger, Michael Ochora, said the camp was meant to take health services closer to the communities who left the camps and returned to their homes.
Ochora advised the HIV/AIDS patients to test for tuberclosis and get treatment early to prolong their lives. He called upon the local communities to go for voluntary counselling and testing.
The Amuru district leprosy and tuberclosis supervisor, Luis Odoki Obol, said the district was working with NUMAT to open three health centres for HIV/AIDS treatment.
Odoki said the district lacked medical equipment and anti-retroviral medication for treating people living with HIV/AIDS.
Other health service providers, the AIDS Information Centre, the district health department and Gulu Youth Centre, offered voluntary counselling and testing and medication.http://allafrica.com/
